Our Commitment to Safeguarding

At Nu Moves Dance Studios, the safety, wellbeing and protection of our students is our highest priority.

We are committed to creating a safe, welcoming and inclusive environment where all children and young people can enjoy dance, develop confidence and reach their full potential.

We recognise that we have a responsibility to safeguard children and young people who attend our classes, workshops, performances, competitions and events.

This policy outlines our commitment to safeguarding and the procedures we have in place to support the welfare of our students.

 

1. Our Safeguarding Principles

Nu Moves believes that every child and young person has the right to:

  • Feel safe and valued

  • Be treated with respect and dignity

  • Participate in dance in a positive environment

  • Be protected from harm, abuse, neglect and inappropriate behaviour

  • Have their voice heard

We are committed to promoting equality, inclusion and respect throughout our organisation.

 

2. Staff Recruitment and Checks

All Nu Moves teaching staff and team members working with children are appropriately selected and checked for their suitability to work with young people.

This includes:

  • Appropriate recruitment procedures

  • Verification of qualifications and experience

  • PVG Scheme membership where required

  • Ongoing expectations around professional conduct

We also ensure that freelance teachers and guest professionals understand and follow Nu Moves safeguarding expectations.

 

3. Safe Teaching Environment

Nu Moves is committed to maintaining safe studio environments.

We ensure:

  • Classes are appropriately structured for the age and ability of students

  • Teachers provide appropriate supervision

  • Students are treated with encouragement and respect

  • Physical contact is appropriate, professional and related to teaching dance safely

  • Concerns regarding student welfare are taken seriously

 

4. Professional Boundaries

Our teachers and staff are expected to maintain appropriate professional boundaries with students.

This includes:

  • Communicating respectfully

  • Maintaining appropriate teacher/student relationships

  • Avoiding inappropriate personal communication

  • Ensuring online interactions remain professional

 

5. Health, Medical Information and Additional Support

Parents and guardians are responsible for providing accurate information regarding:

  • Medical conditions

  • Allergies

  • Injuries

  • Additional support requirements

This information helps us support students safely and appropriately.

All information provided is treated confidentially and only shared with relevant staff where necessary.

 

6. Reporting Concerns

If a concern arises regarding a child’s welfare, safety or wellbeing, it will be taken seriously and managed appropriately.

Concerns may include:

  • Suspected abuse or neglect

  • Bullying

  • Inappropriate behaviour

  • Changes in a child’s presentation or wellbeing

  • Any situation where a child may be at risk

Where necessary, concerns may be shared with appropriate safeguarding professionals or authorities.

 

7. Bullying, Discrimination and Inclusion

Nu Moves does not tolerate bullying, harassment or discrimination.

We are committed to ensuring that every student feels included and supported regardless of:

  • Age

  • Ability

  • Background

  • Gender

  • Personal circumstances

We encourage students and families to speak to us if they have any concerns.

 

8. Photography, Video and Online Safety

Nu Moves recognises the importance of protecting student privacy.

Photography and video recordings are managed in accordance with our Photography & Video Consent Policy.

Students and families are expected to respect:

  • Other students’ privacy

  • Teacher-created choreography

  • Appropriate online behaviour

 

9. Performances, Events and Trips

Additional care is taken during:

  • Performances

  • Competitions

  • Workshops

  • Trips

  • External events

Appropriate supervision, communication and safety procedures will be considered for each activity.

 

10. Parent and Guardian Responsibilities

Parents and guardians play an important role in safeguarding.

We ask families to:

  • Provide accurate information

  • Inform us of relevant changes

  • Support our studio rules and expectations

  • Encourage respectful behaviour

  • Raise concerns promptly
